DR to Host First Biogas-Powered Subway
In the Dominican Republic, the first subway transit project with the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) is set to be unveiled when Santo Domingo Metro’s second line starts operating.
The CDM is one of the “flexibility” mechanisms defined in the Kyoto Protocol and allows industrialized countries to invest in emission reductions wherever it is cheapest globally
The DR’s metro train will be powered by 10 MW of energy produced from a degassing project from landfill, the country’s Climatic Change Council vice president Omar Ramirez.
The official said the country could also receive funds by lowering carbon emissions from fossil fuels, as the Kyoto Protocol stipulates.
