Green Energy Plan for Israel
The Israeli Cabinet approved a green energy plan to provide 10 percent of the country’s energy needs with renewable resources by 2020.
Among the goals set by the plan: using solar panels and biogas to generate 1550 MW by 2014 and 2760 MW by the end of 2020.
Renewable energy quotas for 2011 through 2014 include 210 MW for electricity from biogas, biomass and waste.
Pilot plants using innovative technology have been set a quota of 50 MW and $2.9m has been allocated by the National Infrastructures Ministry for developing commercial demonstration plants in Israel.
