Missouri: Plans to Harvest Highway Biofuels Falls Short
News-Leader.com reports that the “Show-Me Harvest Initiative” in Missouri, which would allow farmers to mow highway rights of way to produce grasses for livestock feed and biofuels, did not make it to the governor’s desk.
Concerns about the safety of drivers with farmers mowing along highways for hay or switch grass for biofuel sidelined the bill. The bill was intended to be an alternative to Missouri Department of Transportation mowing rights of way along state highways.
Similar efforts to capitalize on municipal highway land for biofuels are underway in other states as well.
